Re:live the change you want to see - 2005/04/17 08:54 Hello
I'm new here. I've just started studying with Jehovah's Witnesses. Already I know that what is being taught to me is not what Jesus commanded should be taught. The good news described is not the new covenant good news. Is this why you want reform? About reform, names etc. What's wrong with the first century name Christians? It was good enough for the Apostles and good enough for CT Russell. Jahweh reveals himself through His son.
Forgive my lack of understanding.

Re:live the change you want to see - 2005/04/17 09:51 Ralphy,

The Reformation Movement is chiefly pushing for changes in administrative procedures that we believe are harmful to Jehovah's Witnesses. But, if successful, the changes will enable there to be open discussion about doctrinal matters, which will definitely make for progress in that area as well.

Regarding the name "Christian," we accept that descriptor wholeheartedly. The name "Jehovah's Witnesses" merely identifies what sort of Christians we are. I believe we had a full discussion about this issue recently in one of the threads. Anyone remember which one?

Re:live the change you want to see - 2005/04/17 18:33 Shalom Ralphy,

Two pieces of advice (if I may) when studying with the JW's.

1) make sure it's the BIble, and not one of their own books.

2) Use at least one other Bible translation as well as the NWT. Personally, of the English versions, I like the NIV.

Other than that, enjoy delving into God's word.

But most of all, enjoy getting to know your God personally. There's nothing quite like it.

Much shalom.

Re:live the change you want to see - 2005/04/18 09:35 Thanks for the welcome messages. I was brought up a catholic then an adventist through my teens, baptised by immersion at 15. Much of JW doctrine is familiar because it came from adventists & others.
I will follow your advice. I studied the Bible throughout my teens with Watchtower style aids, and was therefore 100% convinced I was in "the truth". There are now 12 million adventists, we believed we were the peculiar people, the remnant called out by God in the last days, a time of great apostasy. We looked forward to the millenial kingdom.... Still thought that was the truth til a couple of months ago when I studied the Bible with an open mind. Haven't read Bible for 30 years, but now understand more than I ever did in just a few months, but so much to learn.
