Re:Who are the prince in Isa32 and Psalm 45 - 2004/09/16 20:29 Hey Izzy and SoC et Al (who's Al?) - thanks for these pointers. More for me to look up.
I will have to develop my ideas in a more structured way so I will try and do up and essay and see if I can address the points raised as well as my own.

I will then link back to the discussion and see where we get to.

Well...don't pounce if I've got this one VERY wrong, but...might 1 John 2:28, 29 indicate how these anointed ones can possibly be Jesus "sons"? I have trouble reading it another way, as I don't quite know how to associate the terms "made manifest" and "presence" with anyone but Jesus. The relationship between the anointed ones and Jesus is already rather descriptively complicated, in that his anointed 'brothers' compose his 'bride'. I don't see why they can't also be considered Jesus "sons" in a certain specific descriptive context.

Hey Izzy I can accept your point in respect of 1 John 2:28,29 which might suggest that anyone who practices righteousness is a son. I still come back to the context of Ps 45:16 which is about the marriage of the King to his bride and then the mention of sons. In that context I would suggest there is a basis for viewing these as the sons of the King and the bride. The Princes are mentioned in the context of the King who has sons. It is true that Jesus is a prince, that the anointed are princes but in this context I think the players are all clearly identified - King - Jesus, Bride - Anointed, Princes - sons of King AND Bride. The latter is of course an assumption but one I think the context permits.

More food for thought?

Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. If anyone thinks he has acquired knowledge of something, he does not yet know it just as he ought to know it. But if anyone loves God, this one is known by him - 1 Cor 8:1-3
