Re:Christian Interpretation of Daniel - 2005/04/15 20:44
Just a brief thought here Don.
When I consider the pattern of the typical arrangement in the temple, I see that there was the sacrifice of the bull whose blood atoned for the priesthood. Then there was a second sacrifice of the goat for Jehovah which atoned for the rest of the tribes.
While it could be said that Jesus was a sufficient sacrifice for all animal sacrifices, it does beg the question why the two lots of blood in the typical pattern. This seems rather specific.
Dan 9:24 refers to the end of the 70 weeks being to among other things "anoint the holy of holies". I take that to mean that both lots of sacrifices are required to anoint the holy of holies if the typical arrangement is to be applied.
Interestingly the two witnesses in Rev 11 are killed after 1260 days. There is also a strong correspondence IMO between the language in Rev 11:12 and 1 Thess 4:16 (the so-called rapture).
Reading 1 Thess 4, a point in time after Jesus' death, suggests first a resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in death and then verse 17 " afterward we who are surviving will, together with them, be caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in the air..."
Anyway I will leave this thought here. It may need to go to another thread as mentioned by Eden.
