Bread From Heaven - 2004/09/16 20:47 Hi Friends! I would like to share a thought with you all and hear your thoughts as well.
When Joshua led Israel into the promise land there are some interesting events, (Joshua 5). What I want to focus on is the Manna ceasing. (The circumcision, passover and the prince of the army are all relevant but for the purpose of being specific I'll stick to the Manna)
As we know, Jesus is the bread from heaven, Jesus fulfilled the law and the prophets, and Jesus is the means thru which Jehovah has spoken to us at the end of these days. Reasoning on the matter, the manna was food for God's people while they were in the wilderness - spiritually speaking manna is spiritual food. And the only spiritual food we need today is that associated with Jesus - because he is the embodiment of truth; the exact representation of God...etc.

In his letter to Pergamum, Jesus said, 'to him that conquers I will give some of the hidden Manna...and a white pebble...' From here, there are at least 2 VERY interesting thoughts.
1- After the faithful conquer, there are still hidden truths (Daniel 12:4)
2- After the faithful conquer, they recieve confirmation of their reward, not the reward itself.

There's more but I would like to hear the thoughts of others...

Re:Bread From Heaven - 2004/09/16 20:48 Hi SoC. As you say, very interesting. I am not sure where you are heading yet so I can only give some random thoughts prompted by what you said. Much depends, I suppose, on what the "hidden manna" is and when it is eaten. I gather you are suggesting the idea of 'hidden truth'? Are you linking this idea with the golden jar of manna, or not? I thought Jesus was refering to the miraculous manna that was kept hidden away inside the Ark of the Covenant and which did not perish, unlike the manna that was eaten by the Israelites while in the wilderness. I had thought the symbolism was that when this imperishable "hidden manna" is eventually 'eaten' by the anointed it would sybolise the imperishableness (is that a word?) of their new heavenly existense and the full application of Jesus sacrifice on their behalf, rather than the obvious symbolism of continual day to day eating of the regular, though still miraculous, manna. Heb 9:4. In short, I thought the eating of hidden manna symbolised the attaining of immortality.
That pebble has always confused me : ) As I recall, the Society considers it an 'entry token' to heaven.

I look forward to your further thoughts.

Much Philia.
