Re:Where I am today... - 2005/05/29 05:25 Personally that sounds like a bunch of blind faith when it comes to your believing the bible is inspired.

Could you prove to me that it is inspired? Or have you never had a bible study who required such evidence.

ps. athiests dont believe in a creator.

Re:Where I am today... - 2005/05/30 10:17 A thousand comments to … as many posts … on a thread that wanders …

People are about as happy as they make up their minds to be …think it was Lincoln that said that … and the JW’s … if they weren’t unhappy enough to begin with … gather each week to tell one another … how bad it really is … and in case that isn’t enough … they read publications in between … saying … it’s even worse …

So what would one expect … except depression … sickness … disasters … conflict … misery … they are merely receiving as they asked … living out their vision of life …

One of my favorite things to ask ... when I was a JW ... of other JW's ... was ... what is the purpose of life .., and after staring at me quizzically ... they referred me to a booklet called ... What Is The Purpose of Life ... and I would ask ... have you read it... cause it doesn't answer the question ... so what is the purpose of life ???? ... I was always in trouble ...

Is the Bible … from God … IMHO many parts may well have been inspired … but the Church got ahold of two things … the actual words … and the interpretation of those words …

What we do have … if we choose … is the Word of God … the promised holy spirit … direct communication … and the more open we are … the freer the flow …

There is a lot of enlightenment available … if we are only open to it … asking …

I was wondering if anyone here has seen “What the Bleep do we Know” … and if so … would they like to start a thread … (it isn’t available down under yet) …

The funnest edges of science tell us … this is an illusion … which in no way invalidates … God … but rather it can help lead to satisfying answers of some very deep questions … such as …

Why would God … who is Love … allow this painful mess … that only contains dying, pain, depression, see JW’s above … who don't know the purpose ...

Anyone want to start some threads? Can’t guarantee I will be there … but I might throw in the odd … (very odd ??) comment …

Much philia … Evening

General ... see your PMs please

Can I prove the Bible is inspired? No … (nor am I trying to)

Things seem to break down into … mostly …

    Things I know intellectually
Things I gno (as in gnosis … experience)
    Things I believe
    Things that make sense
    Things I can prove

Any of the above … may … or may not … be related …

There is Very Little … I can prove …

The only thing I gno … believe … and that makes sense … is God IS Love …

But that is for me … I can’t prove it to you … I can only experience it for me

Now I wish I had just 'drifted away' - then my friends would still smile and say hello and it would be easier on my wife and kids.

My point is, this is your discovery - and IMO there is no need to freak out your family and freinds. IMO, DFing or DAing is an unnecessary seperation. One thing that hasn't changed even though my perception has, is the thought of LOVE; love of God and brother. Keep that as your guide in your relationships.

Now I see things differently, and I accept and trust that each of us understands the truth as we percieve it until we percieve it differently.

Don't feel too bad ... I drifted away ... and it made little difference ... I was dropped like the proverbial potatoe ... fling shame ... but I did manage to save a lot of direct conflict ... which I regard as a good thing ... (not conflict ... the avoidance thereof!)

I just wanted to say how much I agree with the thought ... Love is the thing which should guide our relationships ...

And even if love is not shown to us ... we can follow the example of Jesus ... who forgave ... whos manner of death demonstrated that attack is never justified ... but showed by example ... what love is ...

Re:Where I am today... - 2005/05/30 11:28 Heb 10: 38 “But my righteous one will live by reason of faith,” and, “if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”

It is not necessary to have everything proven for us to have faith in God’s word. At the end of the day it is a matter of faith. Yet there is ample secular and independent evidence for us not to doubt that “all scripture is inspired of God…”. God expects us to live by faith, but at the same time he has given us ‘intellectual capacity’ to gain knowledge of truth. So our faith is based on evidence (Hebs 11:1 “…the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld”). One could say that it is on the 'balance of probabilities'. However, it is primarily through Jesus Christ that our faith can be complete:

1 John 5: 20 "But we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us intellectual capacity that we may gain the knowledge of the true one. And we are in union with the true one, by means of his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and life everlasting."

What was Jesus’ view of all scripture up until his time? Many times Jesus quoted from OT scripture as fact, thus confirming it all to be true and inspired of God. He often used it as the final authority. This can give us utmost confidence in putting our faith in the entire bible as being inspired of God.

On the question of evidence for believing that the New Testament canon as we have it is also inspired of God and that the Gnostic/apocryphal scriptures are not inspired, there is ample evidence that can be found from a number of excellent Christian apologist sources that give us reasons not to shrink back to doubting.

Lately there has been an explosion of interest in gnosticism and popular new theories that can challenge a Christians faith in the reliability of God’s word. Because of new popular books such as 'The Da Vinci Code', for example, many have wondered if in fact there was some kind of conspiracy in the formation and writing of the NT and perhaps that there is another side to the story. Any whose faith is currently been tested by these notions would benefit from re-examining the evidence for why we can solidly rest our faith on the accuracy and inspiration of the gospels and other NT writings.

There are many fine non-JW sources that can help with this. As an example, here is a website that has some very good resources that show there is an abundance of evidence for solidly resting their faith on the fact that Jesus died and was indeed resurrected: www.risenjesus.com

    Warm regards
