I think that Satan reads the bible and knows some of the strategy already revealed in the text.
For instance he knows that when Jesus Christ returns one of the first things he will do is:
Matthew 24
30 And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send forth his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.
Gather his chosen ones together from around the world.
What if Satan could gather them together before Jesus?
In fact this is what Jesus is warning us about in verses following up to this one:
Matthew 24
23 “Then if anyone says to YOU, ‘Look! Here is the Christ,’ or, ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. 25 Look! I have forewarned YOU. 26 Therefore, if people say to YOU, ‘Look! He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; ‘Look! He is in the inner chambers,’ do not believe it.
In these verses Jesus is warning us that Satan will try to gather us together before Jesus does.
What if Satan is successful?
Revelation Chapter 16 shows that is exactly Satan's ploy:
Revelation 16:13-16
13 And I saw three unclean inspired expressions [that looked] like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the wild beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and perform signs, and they go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth (chosen ones), to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.
15 “Look! I am coming as a thief. Happy is the one that stays awake and keeps his outer garments, that he may not walk naked and people look upon his shamefulness.”
16 And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Har–Ma·ged´on.
Stay Awake!
