1914 no longer - 2006/11/07 04:14 If the kingdom didnt happen in 1914, what does that mean about the FDS doctrine and the GB!

Re:1914 no longer - 2006/11/13 16:45 Very interesting and provocative thought.

Re:1914 no longer - 2007/02/21 08:50 This subject is certainly one that is being debated around the world, for the two hottest commentaries that are accessed from the 2001 Translation site are http://www.2001translation.com/587_or_607.htm and http://www.2001translation.com/607.htm, which present both sides of the time when Jerusalem was destroyed. And it is surprising to see the countries from which these articles are being accessed (Asia, Africa, etc.).

Personally, I am undecided as to whether 1914 was the beginning of the period when "these are near" (Mark 13:4 Pshitta). For more information see the link http://www.2001translation.com/Presence.htm.

The fact that the heavenly establishment of the Kingdom and the ride of the four horsemen come so far before Babylon's destruction and Armageddon in Revelation, seems to indicate a long period to me, possibly 120 years, putting 1914 as a likely date for this start. However, the 3-1/2 years that the Society puts thereafter for the "fall" of Babylon, their exclusive acceptance, and coming out of the valley of dry bones seems highly unlikely.

In the case of the fall of Jerusalem (the type), the last days ran a maximum of 40 years, however.

There are a lot of other theories on this, and I am claiming no special Divine insight, but it appears as though we are about to enter an unparalleled period of great turmoil, and whether that is the establishment of the heavenly kingdom and the ousting of Satan, and/or "the great tribulation" is yet to be seen. However, we should all keep open minds.

Re: keen on dates - 2007/03/20 12:52 Jehovah's Witnesses in general have always been too keen on dates... 1914, 1918, 1919, 1925, 1935, 1975...

According to me it doesn't matter really that much.
According to some the appointment of the FDS has happend in de beginning of the 20th century...
But while this appointment is indeed from important matter Mat chapter 24 seems to shed some light on the issue.
The appointment of the FDS is not something who happens and that's that, and then they have total control... The FDS is a name given for them who try to the work that Jehovah had said to do, not as much to the world, but to the friends, to fellow believers, the verses at the end of the chapter make clear that he has to see them busy till the end of the current things (sorry not a native thongue).
So nor the FDS, nor the GB are sitting on God's throne, and only by death will one be certain of the work he done and the fact if he can be entered into the Kingdom. They are a helping hand, and God and Jesus are watching.
So it is not an appointment made in the past, but "made" in the future.
