May peace also be with you.
The greatest of these gifts, truly, is the gift of love. Love surpasses ALL the gifts of the Spirit and the gift of love.. is the GREATEST gift. It is also a gift not easily manifested in the flesh. For the gift of love seeks the benefit of all and loves what is best for all. All gifts work in 'co-operation' with love.. love being the GREATEST gift. Love can heal illnesses, give sight to the blind, rejoice with the truth, bear witness to the truth, heal a broken spirit, bring comfort to the flesh, feed the hungry, understand the broken hearted, help those doing good works, and comfort those suffering lost. Love does much more than this, but this is only a few things that love can do. There are many gifts of the Spirit [the gift of tongues, prophecy, interpretation of tongues, wisdom, discernment, knowledge, faith, etc.] but the greatest of these gifts.. the gift that fulfills ALL gifts is the gift of love. For by means of love.. all things are possible.
My dear brother/sister Eden, if it is your 'desire' to acquire more gifts of the Spirit, then what you really want to look at is 'why' you want more gifts of the Spirit. What is your 'intention' behind them. I too, have in my past approached our Lord many times asking for more gifts of the Spirit. I did not understand why I had some gifts and why I did not have others. He said to me, "The gifts that I have given you are sufficent for you." When I heard this (this was some time ago) I became saddened. I knew I had some gifts of the Spirit.. but I wanted more. So then my Lord asked me, "Why has your heart become saddened? Why do you desire more gifts?" It was later revealed to me that the reason "I" wanted more gifts was because I loved the 'feeling' of having more gifts and I desired to acquire 'more gifts' so that 'secretly'.. I would have more glory. This was 'very' difficult for me to admit because I initally thought the reason I wanted more gifts was simply because I loved him and wanted to do his will. But the Spirit told me that was not true and he told me I could not hide even my 'true reason' from him. So in time, I came to understand that "was" the reason I wanted more gifts and that was my desire although I myself did not know it. It was then that I started to not want that many gifts and I came to appreciate the gifts he had given me.
Having learned this, my brother/sister, I would implore you.. as your brother, that it really is in your best interest as it would have been in mine if I did it, to look at your intention behind your desire for more gifts. Now, my brother/sister, there truly is nothing wrong with wanting more gifts. This too I have learned. But our Lord is very purposeful in everything he does. There are 'reasons' why he gives some gifts to ones and others gifts to others. And, there are times when our Father will withold certain gifts from us because such gifts will "overload" us. There are many gifts I have, and there are many gifts that I do not have. I have learned, though, that all the gifts really do have a purpose. And when I have come to know that it is not a good purpose for me to have a gift.. it was easier for me not to desire a gift. Now, I will say those gifts of the Spirit are "real." They are very real and they really work. They are available and they really do 'serve' a purpose. However, learning your intent behind why you ask for certain gifts will help you understand why you have certain gifts and why you do not have other gifts. The gifts of the Spirit really are both for our benefit and the benefit of others, but it is very important.. even CRUCIAL to understand your 'intent' behind why you want certain gifts. If you like, you can ask our Lord to reveal it to you. It will not be comfortable.. but I can promise you, it will be the truth.
