The Watchtower Idol - 2005/03/01 02:52 I have been reading a very interesting document that can be dowloaded here:

http://pathways-online.com/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=15

Basically, it is a comprehensive list of hundreds of quotations from the Society's literature beginning in the late 1800s and documenting almost every (failed) prophetic prediction that the Society has made since it's inception, which is the lists main focus and it's most shocking content, along with many other quotes describing the Society's teachings over the years, including: that Jehovah lives on a star in the Pleides system; that rabies doesn't exist; that vaccinations never helped anyone and are a tool of Satan; that Russel was the Laodicean messenger and the Faithful and Discreet Slave; that the spirit no longer functions; that the Society recieves messenges directly from angels; that five minutes with Rutherford's writings brings nore spiritual benefit than hours reading the Bible, and countless other extreme oddities from "Jehovah's sole channel". And it is all direct quotes from the Society's literature. So unless reading the Society's literature can be seen as 'apostate', it should prove acceptable to all.

The list is powerful, I believe, because it shows us clearly, from their own mouth, the Society's track record from the very beginning and so gives a clear indication of what they are, and what they have always been. It is no wonder that the Society covers up it's history and will not provide us with access to their writings prior to the 1950's. It should, IMHO, help those who desire to worship in spirit and truth reach the conclusion with regard to the Watchtower that Elijah called for the Israelites to reach regarding Baal as recorded at 1 Kings 18:21.

"Then Elijah approached all the people and said: 'How long will you be limping upon two different opinions? If Jehovah is the true God, go following him; but if Baal is, go following him' And the people did not say a word in answer to him."

Much Philia.

Re:1 Kings 18:21 - 2005/03/01 03:54 PS. As am example of the Society's coverups and the kind of information that can be gleaned from the list of quotations mentioned above: The WTBTS likes to tell us that they alone preached the setting up of God's kingdom in 1914, decades before it arrived (which it didn't), and that many were greatly impressed when WW1 arrived and so could see that the Society had got their predictions right. In fact, this is utter nonsense.

The Society actually taught - for decades before 1914 and decades after 1914 - that Jesus had already been enthroned in 1874. What they were preaching for 1914 was not the setting up of the Kingdom, but Armageddon, the world's destruction. They were greatly humilliated when this did not take place. Their predictions utterly failed and they were a laughingstock.

Not quite the story the Society tells us now, is it?

Re:The Watchtower Idol - 2005/03/03 00:43 Hi Dodger, and Welcome!

The site is www.pathways-online.com ( http://www.pathways-online.com ) and the dowloads list is on the left. It is the first entry in the 'latest downloads' box and is called 'the list'. Clicking that will take you to its download page where you click on the little disk icon. Hope that helps. I downloaded it so if you still can't get it to work I can email it to you.

Much Philia.

Re:The Watchtower Idol - 2005/03/03 02:31 So, if the WT was not preaching the setting up of the kingdom in 1914, but the end of the world, when exactly did they begin to clearly teach that Jesus had been enthroned in 1914? When did they finally stop teaching that he had been enthroned in 1874?

"In the year 1943 the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society published the book 'The Truth Shall Make You Free'. In its chapter 11, entitled 'The Count of the Time' it did away with the insertion of 100 years into the period of the Judges and went according to the oldest and most authentic reading of Acts 13:20, and accepted the spell-out numbers of the Hebrew Scriptures. This moved forward the end of six thousand years of man's existence into the decade of the 1970's. Naturally this did away with the year 1874 C.E. as the date of return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the beginning of his invisible presence or parousia" (God's Kingdom of a Thousand Years has approached, 1973, p 209)

So were these WT 'virgins' wisely shedding 'light' from the burning 'oil' of the spirit with regard to Jesus activities in the 1914-19 period, the period when they were supposedly specially 'chosen'? (Matt 25:1-12) Well no, they were preaching a lot of nonsense almost every shred of which the Society has since abandoned and attempted to cover up. They could not have heard the supposed 'cry' that Jesus was approaching in the 1914-19 period because they were too busy preaching their own idea that he had arrived in 1874 and that 1914 marked the world's end. These sleepy WT 'virgins' were decidedly short on light bearing oil at the time of the 'groom's' supposed arrival. And it took them three decades to change their minds!

Unfortunately, promoting the falsehood that they were 'ready' and 'chosen' in the 1914-19 period won't prove to have done them any good at all if they eventually have to admit, as with 1874, that Jesus wasn't actually enthroned in 1914 either. "Oh what a tangled web we weave....."
