Re:The Watchtower Idol - 2005/03/04 00:13
Hi Flowerchild. Sooooo pleased to see you here!
I know exactly what you mean. I read the information contained in the list mentioned in this thread about a year ago and it was shocking at the time. A real eye opener. And although it was upsetting to me to see that the what I had been told and believed about the history of the WT was a lie, I was deeply grateful for being led to that information. In short, I desperately NEEDED it.
The Scripture that I used on the "uncanny power" thread regarding the Watchtower shows why we must take a real interest in the history of the Society which presents itself as 'God's channel', however unpleasant that process may be.
""When the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak, with presumptuousness the prophet spoke it" Deut 18:22
The Society has called itself God's prophet organisation, God's spokesman, His representative. We need to test that claim. The only way we can do that is to check to see if the predictions it has made in the past have come true. Well, they haven't at all. Not ever. According to the Bible that means God didnt ever send the WT, they are not his spokesman, the do not have any authority over us.
However the WT acts with great authority and has always insisted that obedience to it means obedience to God. (This is idolatry) That is why many people are in fear of the WT. But the Scripture above about the false prophet ends with this command from God "You must not get frightened at him." (Deut 18:22)
I was raised in the Org., I've been a JW all my days. I was TERRIFIED of the WT....of a lifeless idol. I thought that not to obey it, or to disagree with it, meant dissaproval from God and death! The WT has that kind of hold on the minds and hearts of many JW's. That is why I consider it a real act of love - and that is my only motivation for pointing these things out, believe me - to tell others who may not know of the WT's true history, or who are still afraid of it as if it represents God and carries his authority. By showing them that this lifeless idol, the WT, cannot be Gods representative, because the Scriptures indicate it is, and has always been, a false prophet, the idol can come crashing down in their minds and hearts, as it did with me. And after the dust of this traumatic exprerience settles and the upset has passed, then we find that there is finally no man made obstacle, no barrier of deception, and we can then have a full, approved, relationship with God and his Son in the fullness of the spirit. Isn't that what we are all looking to find and want to get a tight hold of? Therefore I consider aiding in that process to be a real act of love. There are always readers who don't know the WT's history who are still in awe of it and so really need this information. We are not all at the same stage in our 'journey'
But I'm sure you will find other threads that you feel are upbuilding here Flowerchild, and I know that you are a great one for upbuilding others yourself, so I hope you will share that with us here too.
Very Much Philia.
Phi.
