Will There Be Anything Left? - 2005/03/22 14:52 I've received a couple of emails over at jwreform.org and heard a few comments to the effect that, without the WT, there really wouldn't be a religion of Jehovah's Witnesses, that if you take away the "organization," there would be nothing left. The religion would lose its uniqueness and not be any different from any other Christian group.

Not so.

Let's take a look at what makes Jehovah's Witnesses who they are (apart from the organizational aspect):

No trinity
No hellfire
No immortal soul
No predestination
Teaching about a paradise earth.
Emphasis on God's kingdom as the solution to mankind's problems.
Emphasis on Bible education among its members and to the public.
Anti-nationalist
Anti-war
Iconoclast
No clergy class (after the reform, of course)
Lack of ritual and pomp at meetings
No collection plate passed at meetings

These are just to name a few. Now, of course, some religions hold to one or more of these, but I can't think of another religious group that takes all of these positions. Can you? If someone was searching to worship with a group of people who held all of these positions, and we did not exist, would they have somewhere to go? I think they would have to settle. Whether or not you agree with all of these points is not at issue here. The issue is whether the Witnesses can maintain a distinct identity without its institutional form of government. I think it can.

Re:Will There Be Anything Left? - 2005/03/22 15:03 Don would you disfellowship a Jehovah's witness for being pro-war? Your Peace, Surrender, In You,

Re:Will There Be Anything Left? - 2005/03/22 15:06 As you may know, I am against institutionally enforced shunning, so I would not disfellowship anybody for anything. However, I would choose not to associate with a person who was pro-war.

Re:Will There Be Anything Left? - 2005/03/22 15:29 Every large body needs organization, even religious bodies need organization. But if that organization becomes more than an instrument and moves into the realm of God and his Son then it has become an idol of worship.

Anything that claims to represent God or his Son is a lie and idol. The Watchtower has put itself in the place of God and as a result sets itself up as a stumbling to the brotherhood.

The Apostle Paul was organized. Jesus organized the disciples when he sent them out 2 by 2 and when he determined a money box for the poor should be carried with them. Some ex Witnesses have become paranoid about the word "organization" yet, we all are ruled by secular organizations everyday of our lives. It is not the organized activity but the misuse of authority masked under an "organization" title that is the problem. Get rid of the absolute authority and the organization will function as it should.

Peace to all here,
Josh

Re:Will There Be Anything Left? - 2005/03/22 15:40 Josh I am in agreement with you. I truly believe it is possible to define a co-operative organization of witnesses.

Be that as it may. Maybe you can help define how that can be accomplished.
Your Peace, Surrender, In You,
YHVH Re-connect Co-operative
