Gathering the captives of Moab, Ammon and Edom PDF  | Print |  E-mail

As explained in the essay "Prepare to meet your God" by Watchman, Edom, Ammon, and Moab prophetically resemble the three parts of Christendom, Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism.

In his latest essay "In the Final part of the days" He says: The other reference in Jeremiah to the final part of the days is found at Jeremiah 48:46-47, where we read:

"‘Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh have perished. For your sons have been taken as captives and your daughters as captives. And I will gather the captive ones of Moab in the final part of the days,' is the utterance of Jehovah. ‘Down to this point is the judgment upon Moab.'"

It is interesting that Moab ceased to exist as a nation. There was no re-gathering of the captives of Moab. However, Moab has prophetic significance, as is evident in the fact that Moab is listed as one of the nations that escapes the king of the north during the time of the end. In Jeremiah's prophecy, Moab may well represent non-anointed persons who heed the command to "get out of her, my people," during the final part of the days.

In harmony with this statment Jehovahs people find temporary refuge in Moab which is part of Babylon the Great! That is why the call to get out of her my people goes out.

3 “Bring in counsel, YOU men, execute the decision. “Make your shadow just like the night in the midst of noontime. Conceal the dispersed ones; do not betray anyone fleeing. 4 May my dispersed ones reside as aliens even in you, O Mo´ab. Become a place of concealment to them because of the despoiler. For the oppressor has reached his end; the despoiling has terminated; those trampling down [others] have been finished off the earth.5 “And in loving-kindness a throne will certainly be firmly established; and one must sit down upon it in trueness in the tent of David, judging and seeking justice and being prompt in righteousness.”

Notice at the time of Christ taking his throne as the Greater David Jehovah's dispersed ones are concealed in Moab! At that time the call will go out to "get out of her my people" and the dispersed ones will have to come out of Moab. When this happens some of the Moabites will heed this call and come out too.

8 For the outcry has gone around the territory of Mo´ab. The howling thereof is clear to Eg·la´im; the howling thereof is clear to Be´er-e´lim, 9 because the very waters of Di´mon have become full of blood. For upon Di´mon I shall place additional things, such as a lion for the escapees of Mo´ab who escape and for the remaining ones of the ground.

Edom and Ammon are said to have escapees too.

5 “‘Here I am bringing in upon you a dreadful thing,’ is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord, Jehovah of armies, ‘from all those round about you. And YOU people will certainly be dispersed, each one in his own direction, and there will be no one collecting together those running away.’” 6 “‘But afterward I shall gather the captive ones of the sons of Am´mon,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.”10 But as for me, I will strip E´sau bare. I will uncover his places of concealment, and one will not be able to hide oneself. His offspring and his brothers and his neighbors will certainly be despoiled, and he will not be. 11 Do leave your fatherless boys. I myself shall preserve [them] alive, and your own widows will trust even in me.”11 “‘In that day I shall raise up the booth of David that is fallen, and I shall certainly repair their breaches. And its ruins I shall raise up, and I shall certainly build it up as in the days of long ago, 12 to the end that they may take possession of what is left remaining of E´dom, and all the nations upon whom my name has been called,’ is the utterance of Jehovah, who is doing this.

Can Jehovah show mercy to those left over in Christedom who repent! Most certainly!

Jehovah told Jonah that he was going to have mercy on Nin'e-veh a city that did not know God but when told of the calamity God was going to bring upon them, they repented.

Jehovah said: “You, for your part, felt sorry for the bottle-gourd plant, which you did not toil upon or make get big, which proved to be a mere growth of a night and perished as a mere growth of a night. 11 And, for my part, ought I not to feel sorry for Nin´e·veh the great city, in which there exist more than one hundred and twenty thousand men who do not at all know the difference between their right hand and their left, besides many domestic animals?”
